Nichole Nordeman // The Unmaking // New Album Review & Giveaway

Nichole Nordeman is one of my MOST favorite Christian Music Artists. There's a great reason, too. She is an amazing vocalist and inspiring song writer, for sure. More personally though, her music played a pivotal role in My Salvation Story : The Next Chapter. You can read about my journey from islam to atheist to wiccan to Christ Follower here

The part that comes after that involves me asking lots of questions, diving deep into my bible and immersing myself in a positive, God loving crowd. I also changed a lot of the music I was listening to. I don't think all secular music is bad, but I was in need of something uplifting and truth filled.
Enter in Nichole Nordeman's Woven & Spun CD from 2002. It was coming out at the same time I was discovering God's love. The timing of God is always perfect. Over the past decade [and then some] I have turned to her music as a place of meditation while reading my Bible. It's a way to calm and sooth after a particularly trying day & more recently to give an inspiring backdrop to Bible Art Journaling

You can see that when I was given a chance to review [and host a giveaway] of her newest album, The Unmaking, I jumped at it! I can't even tell you how excited I am to have new music from Nichole. Thank you, Jesus! Bless her!

There are six tracks on the CD I received [see disclosure] and I LOVE THEM ALL. This doesn't happen. I typically expect to like a few tracks on anyone's new CD. I've always been a fan of Nichole's music so this really shouldn't surprise me. Each and every track speaks into my soul.

Song by Song Breakdown:

The first track, The Unmaking, is right here in the feels. It reminds me of Matthew 10:39, the losing of our lives to find life.  Nichole Nordeman has this to say about the title track, "Before things in our lives can be resurrected and given new life, certain things must die.  Before beauty blooms in spring, roots must do the hard work under the hard frozen soil of winter.  Before you renovate and re-build, you tear down the parts of the structure that are weak or damaged or dangerous.  Before we make, we must unmake."

This is the unmaking / The beauty in the breaking / Had to lose myself /
To find out who You are / Before each beginning / There must be an ending / Sitting in the rubble / I can see the stars / This is the unmaking

The song, Not To Us, features Plumb. I LOVE them, too! It's so pretty and reminds us to give ALL the glory to God, and not to us. I find this song very relevant to the times today. There's a lot of tension in our country...and the world over. None of that matters. All lives matter. We need to shift our focus back to God.

No walls / No greed / No color / No creed / No right / No left /
All You / No less

The next track, Name, is about how God knows our name, for we are never alone. We are a "friend of God.  A heartbeat of God. The Light of the world knows your name." Whoa. Think about how incredibly deep that is and how comforting. The very creator of the universe, the creator of the millions of people around you, before and after you....and he knows YOUR name. MY name.

The song, Love You More, is perfect for while I am Bible Art Journaling. It's exactly what I'm trying to do, love Him more, through this act of worship. How often do we shame ourselves for our wrongdoings? As far as the east is from the west, he forgives us when we truly repent. It always feels like we don't deserve it. We don't. It's Grace he gives us, we've already been saved. There is no limit to his love.

I keep thinking there's a limit / Sure I must be getting near it /
When I've used up every pardon and regret

The second to last track is, Something Out of Me, which makes me want to dance all 2 Samuel 6:14 style. God can take anything and make something out of it. This includes bad situations, unexpected life changes and the emptiness we can feel. God can turn all of that into something good for His glory!

chocolate ice cream stains & giggles // it's all too fast // slow down
Finally, the song Slow Down....sniffle. I have three kids and this song tugs at my heart so much. The saying that the days are long but the years are short, is so true and this song echoes that sentiment. Slow down. Before you know it your kids are grown and ready to fly. I'm glad that we get to homeschool, and I can hold them a little longer, but it's still going by too fast. There is going to be a music video release sometime near the end of October. Can't WAIT for that!

I am your biggest fan / I hope you know I am / But do you think you can / Somehow / Slow down
