It's almost Easter! There are so many things to love about this season of the year : warmer weather, my kids birthdays [feb, march & april] and the celebration of the greatest gift God gave us. The sacrifice of Jesus so that we could be close to God is the greatest there ever was. Even if heartbreaking to read about, it's humbling when you understand the depth of what God did for us. He loves us so much!
We don't go to a church building weekly, but we make time to study the Bible daily and gather as a family in fellowship. We recently got to add to our homeschool Bible study class by reading a sweet story by Dandi Daley Mackall. This story is actually an old Pennsylvania Dutch tale about how a robin got it's red chest.
The art in this book is exquisite! The illustrations were done by Richard Cowdrey and they really bring the story to life. All three of my kiddos, ages 10, 9 and 4, really enjoyed the story. I found my youngest flipping through the pages after we had read it, just admiring the artwork. It's truly beautiful. You can see a video preview of the book HERE.
In our nature studies, we have studied our local birds which includes robins. We see them everyday where we live. The kids have read about them and drawn them in their nature notebooks. It was so nice to hear this legend and how it ties in The Easter Story. It's beautifully written and I think it really communicates the character trait of compassion.
