Ukulele at the Beach // Homeschooling Simplicity

I've talked before about how much we love our kala ukuleles*. We bought two of them from Amazon at the beginning of the school year. The kids used something I also found on Amazon : Alfred's Kid's Complete Ukulele* lessons. It's a book that comes with a DVD for the kids and I to follow along. Yeah, it's written for kids, but I learned with them. It's great for adults, too! [*affiliate links]
The kiddos like to take the ukes to the beach... something about ukulele music on the beach just after sunrise... bliss. The sound of the waves playing along with them is beautiful. Next time I'll remember to take a video to post here. #MomFail

I highly recommend taking the kiddos into the great outdoors to practice. Two reasons : Less of a headache indoors as they learn, find a secluded section of a park or empty space on a beach, or a field of dreams covered in wildflowers! The second reason is that kids especially are very naturally inclined towards nature. This connects the music to nature and they start playing off of the sounds they hear in nature.

Now that is harmony, folks.

I'm working on simplifying our homeschooling. It won't be any less academic...however, the guilt and self imposed stress is melting away with each adjustment we make. This is our fourth homeschooling year and we have really changed things up. We are coming from a place of peace, calm and inspiration. Of course many days just being still by the shore helps to clear the mind. Each wave washes away a layer of stress and anxiety.

"Be still and know that I am God."

And then of course swimming and beaching it up!

My niece and my kiddos.

Don't forget to jump in pics with your kids!!! It's something I'm trying to do more of since I tend to take the pics and never let myself get photographed.

Aloha, Jane
